Nature’s Edge Therapists Attend Hippotherapy Workshop

Becky Payne, MAT-CCC/SLP HPCS and Laura Dietsche, OTR attended 27 hours of training from the American Hippotherapy Association (AHA) in Level II Treatment Principles for hippotherapy during a four-day course held in Carmel, Ind., June 16-19.  Funding for the training was awarded to Nature’s Edge through the America’s Horse Cares grant program of the American Quarter Horse Foundation.

The Level II curriculum provides an emphasis on problem-solving patient treatment options through advanced equine knowledge, focusing on quality equine movement whether leading, lunging or long-lining the hippotherapy horse during a therapy session.  The workshop format included lecture, discussion, collaborative work and actual patient treatment.  Becky Payne holds the highest AHA designation of Hippotherapy Clinical Specialist.

Hippotherapy courses provided by the American Hippotherapy Association may be attended only by licensed Speech, Physical and Occupational therapists and assistants.
